In the heat of the night

I wake from my sleep in someone else‘s bed
My forehead littered with beads of sweat
Oh, I try to sit up and make up my mind
I need to figure out what happened last night

I succeed in getting up, I stumble around
Apart from my clothes a way out must be found
And as I walk to the door lightings strike my brain
My temporarily lack in mind gives way to pain

Too many impressions and too much light
Can‘t find back to my path, it‘s far too bright
My soul is blazing, my mind takes flight
I burnt my heart in the heat of the night

I stand on the street and watch cars pass by
I think about directions, about truth and lie
Will I wake from this nightmare or will it swallow me up?
Will I find a salving bridge or will I bog down in mud?

On my way home, my left foot drags behind my right
Still buried in thought, still fighting for light
I was tempted to follow a dark and narrow path
Now I‘m forced to live on with the aftermath

Too many impressions and too much light
Can‘t find back to my path, it‘s far too bright
My soul is blazing, my mind takes flight
I burnt my heart in the heat of the night
